Harry ESPN award backlash continues as Middletons hit Wimbledon – Royal Family news

Princess Anne recalls the moment she survived a kidnap attempt

Prince Harry has been defended as a petition calling for a “review” of the decision to award him a veterans award has gathered almost 60,000 signatures.

The 39-year-old Duke of Sussex is receiving the Pat Tillman Award for his work with the Invictus Games, an event that honours the sporting achievements of wounded, sick and injured servicemen and women.

But tens of thousands of people, including the late Tillman’s mother, Mary, believe there are more recipients who deserve the award.

Now the sports network behind the award, ESPN, has defended its decision, praising the “incredible” work of the Games.

“While we understand that not everyone will agree with all of the nominees for an award, the Invictus Games Foundation does incredible work and ESPN believes this is a cause worth celebrating,” a spokesperson told ESPN Sky News.

Meanwhile, Kate Middleton’s parents Michael and Carole make their second public appearance since announcing at Wimbledon that she has cancer.

The pair will appear in the Royal Box, which offers the tournament’s best views of Centre Court.

Meghan Markle’s new cooking show for Netflix has already been branded ‘terrible’ after news broke that filming has wrapped.

The criticism came from Sky News presenter Rita Panahi, who did not hold back when criticising the show based on the limited details known about it so far.

“Meghan Markle just wrapped filming on a new cooking and homemaking show for Netflix, a show that has yet to receive an official title or air date, as part of the Sussexes’ $100 million deal and was filmed on an estate near their Montecito mansion in Los Angeles,” she said.

“Apparently it’s going to focus on the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining and friendship – and I have to say, it sounds bloody awful.”

The show comes hot on the heels of Markle’s announcement of her new lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, which has already launched jam and dog treats.

Within the relationship between King Charles and Keir Starmer

The two will meet today at Buckingham Palace, where the British monarch will ask the Labour leader to form a new government.

Although Starmer at one point said he supported abolishing the monarchy, he paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth when she died.

He told the House of Commons: “Throughout the glorious 70 years of her reign, our Queen has been at the heart of the life of this nation.

“She didn’t just rule over us, she lived beside us, sharing our hopes and our fears, our joys and our pains. Our good times and our bad.”

The politician then took the opportunity to praise King Charles as the new monarch.

“King Charles III has been a dedicated servant of this country throughout his life, he has been a strong voice for fairness and understood the importance of the environment long before many others did,” Keir said.

“As he takes on his new role with the Queen Consort at his side, the whole House, indeed the whole country, will unite today in wishing him a long, happy and successful reign.”

Meghan ‘will never allow’ Harry to reconcile with his family

“[Harry] will not apologize, at least not while he is still with Meghan,” Dee Dee Dunleavy said Sky News.

“I truly believe he is following her orders and that she will never give him the chance to apologize to the family.”

The Duke of Sussex’s relationship with his family has steadily deteriorated since he and Meghan stepped down as working royals in 2020.

He has not seen his father, King Charles, since February, when they reportedly met 45 minutes after he was diagnosed with cancer.

Harry could release another memoir after Charles’ death, commentator claims

A royal commentator has speculated that Prince Harry could release another revealing book after the death of his father, King Charles.

Royal expert Kinsey Schofield claims he could be doing this to “lash out” at his brother Prince William if he continues to be on bad terms with the royal family.

She speculated about Kinsey Schofield Unfiltered: “I think he would write about his family again. He waited to publish a book after [Queen Elizabeth died]. Originally they said that after the [late] The Queen has passed away.”

“I suspect he might release a book after his father passes away. Especially if Prince William continues to keep him at arm’s length. Because what would be the consequences if Prince William pushed you out of the group?”

Prince Harry sent ‘symbolic message’ to royal family

This came in the form of the date he officially registered the US as his primary residence: June 29. This was also the day he officially left the cottage last year.

Although the Duke of Sussex has primarily lived in the US since 2020, royal commentator Esther Krakue said Harry was trying to “send a message” with the decision.

She said Sky News: “It is very interesting that Prince Harry chose to date his official stay in the US to the day he was evicted from Frogmore Cottage.”

“I think he was trying to send a message and it was very symbolic and I think the biggest message here is that it represents everything that could have been and wasn’t and was lost. Potentially it represents what should never have been.”

More recent reports suggest that Harry is now looking for a new place to stay in the UK, after staying in a London hotel during his last trip to the country.

Petition against Prince Harry reaches 60,000 signatures

A petition calling on US sports network ESPN to reconsider its decision to award Prince Harry the Pat Tillman Award for his work at the Invictus Games has garnered more than 60,000 signatures.

It argues that the Duke of Sussex is not a suitable recipient for the prize, which was established in memory of the former footballer who gave up his sporting career to serve after 9/11.

The Change.org petition states: “Prince Harry, despite being a former military man, has been involved in controversy that calls into question his suitability to receive an award of this magnitude.

“He has been accused of endangering his squadron by openly exposing military killings.

“The prince is also said to have attacked his own father, Prince Charles, during an overflight.

“More recently, his role in the Invictus Games, a platform meant to celebrate the resilience and dedication of veterans, has been criticized as self-centered.”

ESPN has defended its decision following the controversy, describing the work of the games as “incredible”.

Harry and Meghan’s celebrity friends are ‘few and far between’

Although Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 wedding was a huge success, it is said that the celebrity circle of friends surrounding their nuptials is getting smaller.

This follows explosive new revelations from Tom Bower’s book House of Beckhamclaiming that Meghan “lied” to herself into thinking she had more social status than Victoria Beckham.

The two couples’ friendship hit a snag when Meghan accused the couple of leaking information about her to the press.

“Their A-list friends who support them are few and far between,” a source said Closer magazine.

“Any chance they had to make amends with the Beckhams has been squashed by the royals. Tom Cruise has clearly chosen to side with the royals, George and Amal Clooney have all but dumped them too, and even Elton John has been too busy to pay much attention to them.”
